Pouches-How to use
To use the 'Wallababies Pouch', you will need either a pre-fold or terry square folded into a pad, to insert inside the 'Pouch' up to the required absorbency. The Pouch is one-sized, (we will shortly be introducing a toddler size) so for smaller babies you could also use flannels, or indeed anything else cotton or hemp you may find appropriate, and just fold any excess fleece over at the front. When you have inserted the terry/prefold, just place the Pouch inside your usual wrap. Ideal wraps are 'Nature Babies' (Popper and Velcro; both available here) or any other wrap designed for prefolds. You could also use an AirFlow (or equivalent), however the effectiveness will depend on how well fitting it is on each individual baby.
(See use of terry squares for animated guide)
You do not need to pin the Nappy, the idea being it just stays in place with the wrap. It is not necessary to use a separate paper liner, (your baby will stay drier if you don't), but if you are not confident about any solids falling off the fleece, then by all means use one, especially if you are going out!
One other advantage of the 'Wallababies Pouch', is that if you should be out and there is soiling that can't be got rid of, you can just turn the pouch inside out before putting it in your nappy bag. You can also place some ready prepared pouches into wraps and treat them like an All In One Nappy; good for babysitters, reluctant partners and changing bags!
Washing Instructions
It is important for pouches and liners that they are washed at least twice before use. This ensures that liquid passes straight through on contact. If it isn't washed first, then the liquid will just sit on the fleece, taking a while to seep through. These first washes should be at 40 degrees and can be with your normal clothes wash; separate the colours accordingly. After that, just wash them with your nappies. Providing they have had these first washes, I have never known any coloured fleece to run into white nappies in a 60degree wash, however I have known it to slightly tint the inside of certain wraps (e.g. motherease, but not nature babies). This should not happen after the fleece has been washed several times, but if in doubt, then wash wraps separately with your normal washing. Fleece does not need to be tumble dried, as it air dries incredibly quickly. If absolutely necessary, tumble dry separately, on a low heat, for a shortest time as possible.
